Asphalt

Asphalt is a complex of black brown compounds composed of hydrocarbons with different molecular weight and their non metallic derivatives. It is a kind of high viscosity organic liquid. It is liquid, the surface is black and soluble in carbon disulfide. Asphalt is a kind of waterproof, moisture-proof and antiseptic organic cementing material. Asphalt can be divided into three types of coal tar pitch, petroleum asphalt and natural asphalt. Among them, coal tar pitch is a by-product of coking. Petroleum bitumen is the residue of distillation of crude oil. Natural bitumen is stored in the ground, some forming seams or accumulating on the surface of the earth’s crust. Asphalt is mainly used in coatings, plastics, rubber and other industries as well as paving roads.

In civil engineering, asphalt is a widely used waterproof material and antiseptic material. It is mainly used for waterproofing of roof, ground and underground structure, and for the preservation of wood and steel. Asphalt is a widely used pavement structure cementing material in road engineering. It can be used to construct asphalt pavements with different structures in proportion with different mineral materials, and the expressway is widely used.
